EMANUELA BARILOZZI CARUSO

Sconosciuti

Six years and more than seven hundred shots stolen during my endless journeys on public transport in my hometown, Rome, and elsewhere around the world. A deliberately infinite research documenting the silent relationship between strangers. A constant tale of travel, displacements, and getting lost anywhere and for any reason.
In the microcosm of a bus or a subway, I see the dynamics of the entire world concentrated. On public transports we are forced to share a minimum space for an indefinite time. We are alone without loneliness, and can feel the thoughts, worries, joys, and sadness of those around us.
Bodies speak to each other without opening their mouth. In the automatic gestures and in the gazes I steal, I find the story of the world and I see who we are, without filters.
We are naked on public transportation. All of us.
Currently this experiment is, by choice, only an Instagram page entitled @comefareisenzaimezzipubblici. Before the page was hacked in April, I updated it almost daily with my, and your displacements. Sooner or later, there will be a book that will tell these stories.
