#POST-ADOLESCENCE
#POST-ADOLESCENCE is a visual journey through the limbo where the lives of Milan’s suburban teenagers become stagnant. Everything started with a useless web researching which results referred exclusively to psychiatric centers, disturbs of personality and counseling. Then this journey became the representation of a fragmented universe with an uncertain future. The easiest way to imagine how a given generation perceive the world is by comparing it with the expectations and disappointments experienced by the generation who brought them into the world and raised them. Those who were born in 1968 had seen the moon landing at age 1, they sang The Clash aged 16. Those who were born in 2000 were hit by 9/11 aged 1 and, by age 8, they had gone through two wars, multiple terror attacks, and a financial crisis which, nearly ten years on, still has them firmly in its grips. They sang Lady Gaga when their parents were losing their jobs. They grew up disoriented. Called the Google Generation, they are the first generation born with a full access to the Internet and computer technology. The social media requested them the exhibition of strong personalities creating a huge difference between reality and fiction in how they auto-representing themselves. «L’auto-représentation fait toujours partie de la sculpture de soi et l’auto-fiction est en quelque sorte inévitable. Se modeler soi-même demande à avoir une image de soi, de son propre devenir. Les efforts déployés pour faire sa propre autocritique impliquent de pouvoir se représenter soi comme objet de la critique.» wrote Richard Schusterman. The same happens with the landscape surrounding ourselves as individuals. We lost the connection with the physical place that seems to be a theatrical staging. My project explores the sense of solitude and ineptitude that these contemporary teenagers are feeling. A sense of loss and abandonment. «Nothing happens while you live. The scenery changes, people come in and go out, that’s all. There are no beginnings. Days are tacked on to days without rhyme or reason, an interminable, monotonous addition. But everything changes when you tell about life» Jean-Paul Sartre said.
