Music has always shaped generations, shaping their tastes, ideals, and dreams.
As a teen, I discovered punk through the film SLC Punk!, and in that world I found belonging and rebellion. I started playing music with friends, trading records, and experiencing sound as a collective force. But as time went on, responsibilities piled up, ideals shifted, and the dream seemed to fade. Newer generations felt more self-absorbed, disconnected from that energy and sense of community.
Then I found places like Circolo Redstone in Valdarno and Carne Fresca in Milan, spaces that brought those feelings back. They reminded me that the spirit of protest, of togetherness through music, is still alive.
Francesco Guttilla is a photographer born in 1994 in San Cataldo, in the province of Caltanissetta, Sicily.
He earned his degree in Photography at the IED in Milan in December 2024 and is currently attending a Masters degree in Photography at the IUAV University of Venice.
Francesco’s interests include books, photography books, music, animals, ( birds in particular), plants ( which he keeps), good wine, food such as pizza, video games, technology and anything to do with measurable techniques in general.
If Francesco was to write about what he shoots currently he would say the closest style is documentary photography. However, the very act of defining his style as such feels restrictive. He generally tries to move along a line between culture and places whilst pursuing his personal interests.
Francesco has displayed his work at the following events and locations: Casa Scaparone (2022), Alba; Alcova Design Week (2023), Milano; Paratissima, You Belong—Storie di Identità (2023), Torino; Kemonialab, Recollections in Tranquillity (2024), Milano; e Gallerie d’Italia, THE DREAMERS (2025), Torino.
