Broadway

“Though many associate Broadway with New York City’s Theater District, few realize the avenue also carves a wide path through Manhattan, bisecting the island lengthwise along its 13-mile stretch — and extending well into the Bronx and beyond. When I learned of this, I decided to follow the route, starting from 225th Street to the edge of Battery Park. Along the way, I photographed whatever I found — to me — visually engaging and emblematic of this city’s idiosyncratic nature.

Especially after moving to New York City, I have become increasingly intrigued by how individuals photograph their surroundings. Witnessing these interactions on a massive scale, I’ve noticed how people gravitate towards scenes and subjects typically considered iconic or symbolic of this globally recognized place.

I set out in October 2015 to create my own personal record of this energetic landscape, wanting to stray from romanticizing New York City’s streets while indulging my own fascinations with the city.”
