The series ‘Love, fuck & pray’, was made in 2018 – 2019 in collaboration with the LGBTQIAP+ center in Tokyo and Osaka (Japan). This work functions as a visual research about queer sexuality and the male body in Tokyo that bounces back on a culture that is known for sexualising mostly the female body. The portraits dance between masculinity and femininity. They reflect -together with texts of Yukio Mishima- on the rich history of BDSM in Japan and give it a contemporary face. The work functions as a conceptual documentary with in a personal approach, which reflects the artists Queer gaze.
Jonas Van der Haegen (°1996, Ghent) is a queer artist who graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent, Belgium. His work functions as a visual research in the artist’s personal life and interests which touches subjects like sexuality, identity, and relationships. The work questions how we approach gender and sexuality in the 21st century in the frame of freedom or the influence of the internet.
