Lars Plessentin

Driven by the great interest in the opposing poles of naturally originated and artificially created structures, Lars Plessentin has dedicated his work to analogue photography of landscapes and still lifes for many years.

Goldfinger

In his new series the Berlin-based photographer now creates new landscapes through a radical intervention into the development of photographic images – landscapes that by their associative and suggestive potential challenge the imagination of the viewer. Expanding his artistic means to the exploration of qualities and conditions, he continues his previous work in a new context also with new materials. However, the questions ‘What is nature and how is it created?’ and ‘What is structure and how is it created?’ remain leitmotif.

From conscious application of the craft of photography and, yet, experimental manipulation with light, structures of various materials, and different layers of painted acrylic glass, dreamlike landscapes emerge, which remind us of the powerful atmosphere of the impressionism combined with the colourful expression of colour field paintings or pop art.

With those abstract structures, Lars Plessentin offers only basic indications for the production of inner pictures. The reduced scenarios without obvious concreteness and the dimensions that cannot be explicitly decoded provide room to the effects of the fiction suggested by the image.

With Goldfinger, the states of being awake and of dreaming, of energy and deep rest meet.
