MARTA VALDEGRANI
Come un cane so vivere solo nel presente
A dog lives in the present. When a person leaves, the dog has no sense of when, or even if they’ll return.
For a dog, the only truth is shared presence.
This piece explores that vulnerability through an act of attention, communicated through the gaze, as if to say: I’m here. I see you. While you run, while you explore. The movement is pared down to its essential elements.
The images serve as evidence of time spent together, taking on a form that reflects their fragmented, temporal nature.
Marta Valdegrani (2000) was born and lives in Milan.
After a humanities education, she approached photography, which, together with words, became her chosen tool for exploring the world. Her research focuses on the relationships between subject, object, and place, their perception and representation. Her field of inquiry is the world within reach, whether by hand or by gaze, where visual priority is given to the domestic and the familiar; to the words held back by that portion of reality closest to us, and perhaps for that very reason elusive and ephemeral.
With a background in the humanities she is now dedicated to photography, which, along with words, is her preferred means for investigating the world. Her work centers on the relationships between subject, object, and place, as well as their perception and representation. Her research is focused on the world within reach, or within sight, where visual priority is given to the domestic and familiar; to the words held within that portion of reality closest to us, which, perhaps because of this proximity, remain elusive and ephemeral.
